This is Yakisugi

As one might assume with the term yakisugi, it comes from abroad, more precisely from Japan. But it is not so much the origin of the term that is important here, but rather the meaning. This is a very old tradition from Japan, with which wood preservation takes place there. Here the wood is treated with a varnish or a glaze, as we know it, rather a burning of the wood. The burning takes place here, however, only in the beginning, which is charred the surface. There is no complete burning of wood. By burning the surface of the wood, a so-called carbonization occurs. This makes the surface of the wood not only waterproof, but also more durable due to the charred layer and also provides protection against insects and wood pests. Of course, this method always raises the question of which woods it is suitable for. But there are almost no restrictions here, so they can also be applied to European woods.

Versatile possibilities through Yakisugi

The Yakisugi method is suitable for many different ways due to its properties. This method is suitable for furniture construction.
